I want to sell a famous NORH SE9 tube amplifier with a pair of floorstanding NORH PRISM 5.2 Speaker. Both of them are in very good condition and check online review for their performence reputation which is too good. Call or SMSat 01720-110099 for more info. Amplifier and Speaker together for TK 60000 For sale: Norh Prism 5.2 speakers and Norh SE 9 tube amp – from original owner Long description follows. This is not a copy-paste from websites. I am hoping to sell this unit to someone who understands the value of high quality audio. Typically, those people tend to have the patience to read :-) Speakers – Prism 5.2 pair This is very nice 8 ohm speaker system, probably one of the only prism designs by Norh ever sold to Bangladesh. It was shipped to Dhaka as a brand new unit couple of years back. Color is teak. Before you read the specs, I’d like to comment on the sound. The speakers have a refined, detailed sound. It’s suitable for a wide range of music – anything from classical to dance music. They are not overly clinical or linear in presentation so you can still enjoy poorly recorded material on these speakers. You can play them quite loud (should you choose to) and they can easily serve a 400 sq ft room. Being a floor standing unit, you are unlikely to have placement issues. You can place them close to the walls and these speakers use the floor for tuning. The design is not a gimmick. Going through the old brochures, here is the explanation: “Speaker designers have known for over forty years that the box is not the ideal shape for loudspeakers. The worst shape would be a cube. The reason is that all sides are equal in length and parallel. The rectangle box is slightly better because not all sides are equal in length but all sides are parallel. Parallel boxes reflect energy back and forth. The energy inside the box competes with the energy being produced outside the box. As the woofer returns backwards, it creates a reflected energy that bounces back and presses directly against the woofer. The driver literally is fighting against its own energy. The Prism has no parallel surfaces. Each angle is less than 45 degrees. This means that energy created by the loudspeaker is compressed upon itself. All Prism loudspeakers are ported on the bottom. This couples the cabinet with the floor and increases the impact of bass.” At this price, you are unlikely to find anything better unless you are willing to build your own speakers, and have friends overseas who can source you drivers and components. These speakers are old, but do note that they have been handled very well and is being sold by the original owner. The original price was $500 plus shipping. It’ll match well with solid state amps or tubes. And now, the specs. Uses a single 5 ½" Vifa woofer and a nicely matched tweeter Frequency Response: 48 Hz to 20,000 Hz +/- 3dB Crossover: 4000 Hz - designed by Allen Issakson of DACT (http://www.dact.com/) 15 liters of internal volume Great bass, plays very loud even with 40-60 wpc receivers (can handle up to 100 watt RMS) Tube amplifier – SE 9 This is a highly regarded amplifier. Google “Norh SE9” and you’ll find a lot of information and reviews for this unit. I wouldn’t be able to add much to the description, except this: tube amps tend to sound more pleasing than accurate. This amp hits the right spot by being accurate and having the classic tube sound signature. The tube amp was purchased from Norh showroom and brought back to Bangladesh via air. Once again, this is being sold by the original owner. From my experience, those who look at tube amps tend to be of 3 types – a) Customers who know what they want b) Curious people who want to “try things out”, not necessarily for purchase, and c) Dealers who want to resell this for a profit. I’m hoping to sell this set to category (a). If you fall in this category, then you would know that tube amps are more suited for classical / instrumental / jazz music. However, I’ve personally tested other types of music with this amp and they sound quite pleasant. Just a quick reminder, tube amps in Dhaka are very expensive because of their large shipping weight. Do a search, you’ll find poorly designed tube amps made in China selling for Tk.80,000+. Instead of buying a copied design with poor quality parts made in China, you can buy this amp. What’s the catch? You’ll need to buy the speakers too. While the amp will fare very well with much more expensive and sensitive (92 db or above) speakers, the combination of prism 5.2 + SE9 is quite nice. Or you can pair the tube amp with your primary speakers and use the prisms for home theater. You choice, but this is being sold as a package. Serious buyers are welcome to audition the equipment. If the price range is beyond what you can afford, I would encourage you to build your own equipment. Many designs are available at www.diyaudio.com.
