The Mac Mini is Apple's smallest and cheapest Mac. The basic design remains unchanged, consisting of a smart little aluminium box that's small enough to fit inside a biscuit tin. The fast i7 processor is more than powerful enough for video-editing or audio recording using the included iMovie and Garageband software. These free programs are surprisingly capable and well worth experimenting with. Despite its power, the Mini is almost silent. Apple has finally added four USB3 ports alongside the Firewire 800 and Thunderbolt connectors. This is useful as fast USB3 hard disks are cheaper than Firewire 800 and Thunderbolt equivalents. The Thunderbolt port can also be used to connect monitors, TVs and projectors. Since there's also an HDMI interface, it's possible to connect two monitors to the Mini. the Mac Mini is a capable, unobtrustively small and attractively designed home computer price - 74k |
