Background and Identification

Kinect for Xbox 360 (model 1414) was released on November 4, 2010 as a peripheral sensor device. Model 1473 was later released to add compatibility with the "Kinect for Windows" package, as well as model 1517 which was built specifically for Windows machines. The model number can be found on the underside of the base on a sticker. Kinect for Xbox 360 was later replaced by the newer Kinect 2.0 for Xbox One on November 22, 2013.

Kinect is a sensor bar that is placed at the base of a television set. It contains a tilt motor mechanism at its base, three camera sensors, and four microphone arrays. These components allow Kinect to provide accurate motion feedback from the user's body movements. Kinect uses its tilting motors to automatically adjust to follow the users movements.
