A lens with focal lengths in the 55 - 200 mm range is one of the most popular zoom telephoto devices. Along with a kit lens it gives you the focal range sufficiently wide to cover most of amateur usages. Small wonder also the Tamron company decided to enlarge its offer by this type of instrument.

In October 2005 the launch of the new lens, named the Tamron AF 55-200 mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro was announced. The Di II symbol means that the instrument is designed to work only on reflex cameras with an APS-C/DX sensor format. If you construct a lens for a smaller detector it will narrow the range of potential buyers down but, on the other hand, it allows you to save on weight, dimensions and the price of equipment.

The lens is available in three different mounts: Canon AF, Konica-Minolta AF-D and Nikon AF-D.
